Robert Fischer's Showing at Interzonal Highly Creditable
Last Year's Winner International Master and U.S. Champion, 15-year-old Robert Fischer, was not in Rochester to defend his title for he was deeply involved as an American representative in the Interzonal at Portoroz, Yugoslavia.
His showing so far is highly credible with one loss to Pal Benko, of Hungary; a win over Geza Fuster of Canada and draws with Otto Neikirch of Bulgaria, Argentinian Hector Rossetto and former challenger to the world title, David Bronstein.
In chess of the Caliber of opposition at Portoroz, drawn games are not static operations, but desperate encounters requiring consummate skill and initiative to sustain attacks and anticipate reprisals.
Fischer in his first International Tournament has proven his competence.
