Lad's Chess Ups Phone Bills
Brooklyn, N.Y. — Not many mothers have to worry about paying $50 phone bills regularly—but then not many mothers have a 14-year-old son who is regarded as one of the top 20 chess players in the world and travels frequently to contests.
Robert Fischer of Brooklyn, incurred the $50 bill during a recent Nebraska trip. He makes it up to mother by producing dividends from his chess.
The top chess players in the country are Fischer; free world champion Samuel Reshevsky; James Sherwin, William Lombardy and Hans Berliner.
