Evans Advances In Chess Tourney
New York (AP)—Larry Evans of New York defeated Ray Weinstein of Brooklyn in 38 moves last night and in the process moved back into a tie for first place with Bobby Fischer of Brooklyn in the National Chess Championships.
Each has a 4-1 record.
In the only other completed match of the night, William Lombardi, the 20-year-old world junior champion from New York, and Robert Byrne of Indianapolis, drew in 38 moves.
