Weinstein Wins Junior Title; Remlinger Close
Raymond Weinstein, 17-year-old sophomore from Brooklyn College, is the new junior champion of the U.S. Chess Federation, succeeding Bobby Fischer, who is on a European tour.
Twice winning the junior title at the Marshall Chess Club in New York, Weinstein was the favorite in the tournament in Homestead, Fla. He scored 8-1, winning seven and drawing two.
The total was equaled by Larry Remlinger of Long Beach, who won eight games. However, Remlinger lost to Weinstein in the fourth round, which dropped him to second place in the final standing. Stephen Jones of Austin, Texas finished third with 6-3.
