Bobby Fischer, the U.S. national champion who also won the National Junior Championship last year, could not compete in this event this year because of his current tour of Europe.

McCormick is a vice president of the U.S. Chess Federation and one of the leading boosters of chess in the state and nation. He is giving his time and talent at present toward raising funds to send an American team to the world Chess Olympics this fall. The Woodbury exhibition was for that purpose and raised $32 toward it. McCormick deserves much credit for the hard work he is doing on behalf of this worthy cause.
