Interzonal Tournament
The latest reports from Portoroz, Yugoslavia, indicates that American champion 15-year-old Bobby Fischer may have difficulty in qualifying for next year's world's candidates tournament, since he must win both his remaining games to finish in the top six who will qualify for the event. The candidate's event will be the stepping-stone to a 24 game championship match with world champion Botvinnik of Russia, to be played in 1960. Paul Benko, a Hungarian refugee now playing for the U.S. is accorded a good chance of finishing among the leaders in the present event. The other American, Jim Sherwin, is well down the list.
